Those who can, do.
Big problems do not solve themselves, they require vision and forward-thinking. Meaningful change needs dedication and an unwavering belief that things can be done better. These are the stories of some of our partners’ commitment
to solving a modern-day conundrum, not by
hubris, but by action.
Bold Change at 30,000 ft
Anyone who has ever flown couldn’t help but notice the amount of single-use waste created on even the shortest of flights.
In an industry-first, easyJet’s entire in-flight workforce switched to Ecoffee Cup to-go cups and reusable cutlery sets – preventing the use of millions of single-use items.
In total, the program is estimated to remove more than 70 tonnes of single-use items from waste streams each year.
14,000 staff, including pilots and cabin crew, received their personal Ecoffee Cup and reusable cutlery set for use onboard, with a further 2,000 new crew to receive the same by the end of 2024.

Dublin’s Finest Breaks Free
No trip to central Dublin would be complete without sampling some of the finest sourdough you’re likely to find this side of New York.
Just like their baked goods, award-winning bakery Bread 41 take great pride in everything they stand for, including their environmental impact. As part of their B-Corporation journey, they began to explore what life without single-use cups could look like. The penny had dropped.
In early 2023 we worked with Bread 41 to remove 100% single-use and replace these with our locally-made Ecoffee Cup Nova on a deposit-return system.
Net result? Not only have they saved almost 50,000 single-use cups from landfill, customer feedback has been hugely positive, with to-go coffee sales increasing since the program’s introduction.
First Movers
“It was just the right thing to do.” In 2018 Sam Roberts put his money where his mouth was, and in a world first, Boston Tea Party banned 100% single-use across their entire 23-cafe estate. The world’s media paid attention.
Five years on and with more than one million cups saved from landfill, re-use has become the BTP norm. It has proved to be popular with loyal customers and has become a benchmark for the industry.
“Change is never easy, especially when you’re doing it by yourself, but in 2024 it seems crazy that single-use still remains a thing, considering a commercially successful re-use program is more than possible.”
“We are super keen for other cafes and coffee shops to join us in our battle against single-use and have run workshops for other cafes and businesses to learn the ups and downs of such an ambitious project.”

Setting Standards Since 1978
From modest beginnings in 1978 at the Covent Garden cafe that still bears its name, London’s eponymous Monmouth Coffee Company has remained at the
forefront of the city’s vibrant cafe culture.
But by 2019, with 80% of their 700,000 annual coffees sold in single-use cups, it had become apparent that Monmouth had to take the lead and innovate.
Since 2022, we’ve helped Monmouth deliver arguably the least complicated, most successful deposit-based re-use program in the UK. Their high footfall location in London’s iconic Borough Market has proven the perfect location for it – removing more than one million single-use cups in less than two years. Not bad for a 45-year-old.
Monmouth’s move to rid its business of single-use cups has seen a wave of UK cafes follow suit.
Find out how we helped Monmouth lead by example.
The Game Changers
With 13 league titles and over 40 million global fans, Arsenal FC needs little introduction in the world of top-flight football.
With waste management and disposal as one of the club’s environmental pillars, Arsenal worked with us to create a range of bespoke Ecoffee Cup products that fans could proudly carry with them when they’re on the go.
Getting fans used to the idea of re-use is just the beginning. We envision a day, sometime soon, when all sports clubs, big or small, have kicked their single-use habit for good.
